The Q-Bond cutter CUT1

The ultrasonic cutter cuts all major sailcloths materials from thinnest spinnaker cloth to the thickest woven Dynema/Spectra textile. In this range we include all Cuben fiber film, including all sorts of laminates with reinforcement fibres as carbon aramid and Pentex. The sailcloth is fed into the cutting head and the cutter is simply rolled along the cut on a floor or a table. And it feels like cutting through butter with a hot knife…

The CUT1 device works with the same ultrasonic generator as our activation device MAM1.

Q-Bond Ultrasonic Cutter vs Laser Cutter

The close-up pictures to the right shows a cut with our ultrasonic cutter on the top and a cut with a laser cutter below. This materail is a very thick spectra cloth reinforced by carbon fibres. The laser cuted edge is thick and melted and the free ends of the carbon fibre create fringes outside the cut.

Our ultrasonic cutter has created an edge much smoother, but yet sealed by the very local heating effect of the ultrasound. Demanding cuts diagonally against the fibres are also easily done with Q-Bonds cutting device.
